This is what happens when you stop thinking about doing something you fear and just do it. Brian sent me this awesome sock knitting book (Thanks, Brian!) and since he was so gracious, I felt I had to at least try. I decided to just get my yarn, needles and book and sit down and follow the directions....no thinking....no analyzing....just do what the book said.
I TURNED A HEEL!!!!!! I can't believe I finally turned a heel! It was so not as hard as I thought...I always end up saying that when I finally do something. lol Now, it's time to pick up stitches and I think this scares me more than turning the heel did but I will at least try.
I have no idea if the sock will even be wearable but I'm understanding what's happening so I know that I will be able to knit socks after this. I have wanted to do this for so long so this is just an awesome feeling for me. I don't know if I will work on it more today....maybe later tonight when things quiet down.
Thanks for all the encouragement I've gotten about trying to knit socks....you all are such great motivation! Wish me luck with the picking up stitches....another new thing for me...only ever done this once I think.
I'm using the yarn Aunt Kathy sent to me....they may not be wearable but they will be bright and pretty. lol

Wow! Great job with the heel! The hardest part about socks is getting the courage to start and you've already been over that hurdle.
WTG !!!! i know someone that would wear that color sock.... surprised she hasnt stole it yet lol.....
This is in response to both of your posts, You sure hit the jackpot with your goodies......Love it all..........the sock are looking great...boy I can not wait to be able to make some...I want to at least make a pair of crocheted socks,,,OH I can actually do that now, I have a little money since we got our taxes done...Hmm, will have to take care of that later and buy me some sock yarn..
Yippee!!! great job Melanie
Ahh Melanie BRAVO BRAVO. I finished the sock i started yesterday, I will blog it tonight, it's HUGE lol. The picking up stitches isn't that hard, if I can do it I know you can.
I am now started on the beginning of the real pair now, but Adam is sleeping and I had to turn off the light. I'll work on it more tomorrow.
Congrats!
Socks are fun and addictive. :)
I think the color is great. Beautiful yarn.
Awesome! Give yourself a big pat on the back for a job well done. Doesn't it feel great to conquer those fears?
By the way - sometimes it's easier to pick up those stitches using a crochet hook. That's faster for me by a long shot. It makes it less fiddly.
Good job! I'm so glad you got right into this! I'm glad you like the book, too. So far it looks great, and you have the right additude- if this one doesn't turn out wearable the next one will. However, it already looks like it is going to turn out nicely.
You are doing a great job. The heel looks great. And don't dread picking up stitches. It's really not as hard as we think it is, before we actually do it. Keep it up. Don't think you can't do anything you set your mind to. Because you can, have, and will!
Can't wait to see the finished socks.
YAAY & Welcome to the sock club!!! I have that book.. hehe :)
Your heel looks awesome!! Keep it up!! Picking up the stitches is easy don't stress. I always pick up an extra stitch where the heel meets the instep. That prevents a hole.
Good luck!!
YEAH!!!! I am just so very happy for you. That is so awesome. I so remember my first time. I was so anxious. YEAH!!!!!
Hugs!!!
Yay...your progress looks great! You'll do fine picking up the stitches I'm sure. Having a book to show you the way is a big help. Can't wait to see your finished sock...
good luck with the rest and happy knitting :)
